Science Fair

Attention all student scientists, inventors, engineers, and researchers! This is your chance to share your science creativity with the Clear Creek community.

Welcome to the Science Fair page for Clear Creek School. On this page you will find instructions for the science fair, tips for planning, after school assistance sign up, volunteer sign ups, and all of the odds and ends needed to plan and participate in our fair.

Let’s Have a Science Fair!

Our vision for this optional fair is to allow students to get involved in science at home and share it with eachother at school in a creative way with poster boards and models. This fair is for fun so there are no strict guidelines except for keeping things safe, no flames! For those who prefer a structured rubric to work off of we will provide an example below. If you are having trouble choosing a project we recommend searching science fair project ideas online. There are so many creative ideas to try, but please, no plagiarism. We are exploring science for fun so truly just have fun with it!

Our fair structure

This opportunity is open to students of all grades. Projects will be showcased in the gym on March 11th after school from 245-5.

Agenda

8-830 drop off projects in the gym.

12-230 classrooms can tour the projects

245-345 project judging

345-445 participation prizes

445-5. take project home.

Projects will be graded using the rubric provided on this page. The top 3 projects in each grade will receive an award. Winners will be announced at the 2nd trimester assembly on Friday March 14th. All participants will receive a participation ribbon and prize.

Projects can be an experiment, an invention, a study, robotics, or anything science related that is approved prior to the fair. Please use the sign up page to enter your initial project idea and intent to participate  by December 19th. If there are any questions we will reach out to clarify your project information. If you have questions, please ask them using the Q&A section below.

If students would like to enter their project in the California Science and Engineering Fair, sign ups are due by March 7th. Please see the guidelines at www.nevcoexpo.org

Project expectations:

Each project should have a tri fold display board and can also include a hands on model. Side note- for those wanting to enter CSEF, I believe a typed report is required. Students should label the sections of their project on their board in an organized manner. Example:  title, hypothesis, materials, procedure, discussion, results, conclusion, citations.

Students will give a brief presentation explaining their project to a judge. Projects will be judged on creativity, display organization, verbal presentation, and completeness.

It is expected that parents will need to assist students with their projects. Please allow students to complete as much of the project on their own as is appropriate for their age.

Some project ideas to get you brainstorming :

  1. Which detergent works better?
  2. Which nail polish dries fastest?
  3. How does a mercury thermometer work?
  4. How do fish breathe under water?
  5. What are the northern lights?
  6. Taste test… is coke better than Pepsi?
  7. How to grow rock candy.
  8. How to make chapstick.
  9. Alternative Car fuel: how to save the planet using…… ( you never know who might make an incredible discovery during a science fair) 😉

Funding

We are currently working on securing proper funding for the Science Fair so that we can reward students for their hard work and also offer assistance to students who need necessary materials and supplies. If you would like to donate to the science fair, support our students, and keep this event going for years to come, please donate through the clear creek ptc Venmo @clear-creek with a science fair memo. Also, if you know any companies willing to make a large donation, we plan to put their name on a sponsor banner and reach out to local news such as yuba net to acknowledge their support.

Q&A forum.

Please type any questions you may have here. It is likely others may have the same question.

Thank you for visiting the Science fair page. We hope you will join the fun!
